The list is out for Camper’s Award. But before scrolling down, I hope you take some time to read some of the things I would like to say before finding out if you passed.
1. Remember the twin pillars of Boys’ Brigade are discipline and Christian faith not awards and stripes. Don’t get your focus wrong.
2. For every award you’ve gained, we truly do hope you have learnt something from it or through that award, you’ve gained personal growth. The spirit behind learning something is to be able to understand and know how to apply one’s knowledge and not stay as just head knowledge – the award is only a by-product.
3. If you failed an assessment or your report got rejected, we are always glad to give you second chances, even third chances. The failure/rejection is not to tell you how bad you are, but to push you to do even better. We hope in all things that you attempt, regardless of which area of your life it is, you would aim to give it your best and to always push yourself to achieve greater heights. You only fail, when you give up after not being successful the first time.
Basically, we hope from joining this family, you wouldn’t just aimlessly float around. In years to come, I hope one day when you look back upon the days you started out as a new member of the family you can say “I’ve learned things from Boys’ Brigade”.
I remember when I first joined the seniors section, somebody once shared that Boys’ Brigade is our safe zone to make mistakes and try out new things before we step out there to face life. I can tell you with confidence, it is true. My dad’s decision of enrolling me into this family is one I would be ever grateful for.
