Seniors Camp Update 23/Aug/2024

23 Aug

Dear campers,

We are a little over 3 weeks away to our camp!

Hope you are as excited as we are.

The camp this year is quite different from the previous years.

Not only it is a new place, the experience and preparation is also a bit more intense.

We have little outside support for this location and therefore we have to do a lot of things ourselves.

This makes good planning and communication a very important part our preparation because we have little room for error.

Please take the remaining 3 weeks seriously and talk to your teammates regularly especially when you have received feedback.

The officers have been reviewing and providing feedback on your meal planning.

A few common things we noticed:

1) Learn to differentiate what you really NEED (main meals) over what are nice to haves.
This thinking is very relevant to real life.
If you spend a big chunk of your limited budget on nice to haves (such as supper which is already provided) – it will affect what you can plan for the important parts which is what you really NEED.
2) The budget you are given is realistic for decent MAIN meals throughout the camp.
It is certainly does not qualify as luxury.
You get to feel what it is like for parents who have limited resources (money) to take care of what is truly important.
Even then, it is possible to be a little creative if you put some effort into it.
3) For those who are not responsive.
If you did not play your part as a team member – you have no one to blame when things don’t go right / well in your team.
4) For those who are trying your best to do a decent job on this.
You experience what life is like for your parents with so many demands.
Hopefully that helps us appreciate them in new light.

So far we have not seen questions outside of meals in the meal groups; e.g. packing, awards assignments etc.

If you have questions, DO NOT DM the organisers or officers from now on.

We will only answer or respond in the Campers chat from now on.

This is to minimise conflicting / wrong information shared to members from the organising team.

Learn to overcome fear of asking questions publicly. This is an important life skill.

Carefully read the materials shared in the previous announcement, if you have not already done so.
